What Equipment Do I Need?
The most accurate way to determine which spray equipment is best for the whatever type of coating you’ll be applying is to simple check with the paint manufacturer’s Technical Data Sheet. This will include useful information such as tip size, preferred application methods, preferred thinner percentage and other pertinent specifications.
However, we’d like to provide a basic “Rule Of Thumb” guide to help you understand the major categories of paints.
INORGANIC ZINCS
Rule of Thumb: Use an agitator pot & spray with conventional gun
EXPOXY ZINCS
Rule of Thumb: Can be sprayed using airless or conventional sprayer
HIGH BUILD EPOXIES
Rule of Thumb: As this is typically a thicker coating, use a larger tip and fan size
CATALYZED ACRYLICS & TOPCOATS
Rule of Thumb: As these are generally a lot thinner, they can be sprayed using an airless or conventional sprayer and smaller tip size
Tip: Follow the wet edge. It’s a good way to ensure you don’t have any dry spray on your surface.
