OVERVIEW
A significant marine vessel maintenance company located in Darwin Port, Australia had a problem. The company was facing environmental and productivity challenges with their existing process for coating and corrosion removal, which generated a lot of moisture due to their compressor not being able to handle the demand.
CHALLENGES
They were dealing with several challenges in their marine vessel maintenance process. The standard blast nozzles they were using for coating removal were just not as effective, and there was moisture being generated by their compressor. The “moisture traps” they were using couldn’t handle the tropical demand of moisture removal.
The neighbours had complained on a number of occasions, due to noise and dust issues in this yard.
Additionally, the production demands of meeting tidal changes, ultra thick coatings, and lack of efficiency were hindering their productivity – and resulting in wasted abrasive.
SOLUTION
BlastOne was brought in to address their challenges. After a thorough discussion with the CEO, BlastOne identified an opportunity to introduce their SnakeBite XQ blast nozzles to mitigate the noise pollution and improve production efficiency.
RESULTS
The implementation of BlastOne’s SnakeBite XQ blast nozzles resulted in outstanding outcomes for them. The noise pressure was reduced by half, resulting in a significant improvement in environmental noise pollution.
Moreover, the productivity of the marine vessel maintenance process increased by 180%, leading to higher efficiency and reduced wasted abrasive.
CONCLUSION
Through BlastOne’s solution of introducing SnakeBite XQ blast nozzles the customer was able to overcome the challenges they were facing in their marine vessel maintenance process.
The reduction in noise pollution, much improved productivity, and efficient use of abrasive resulted in a successful outcome for the company’s bottom line.
“Obviously the SnakeBite is a lot more efficient as far as blast time goes. I’d like the SnakeBite nozzle to complete the project!”
Shane – Production Manager
“The #8 [SnakeBite] seems to cut it a bit better [than the #7] for a big surface – I like the #8 better.”
