OVERVIEW
In May 2022, Quincy Industrial Painting, a renowned industrial painting service contractor, came to us with a common industry project. The task was to remove a 6-10 mils coating from an external fuel storage tank located in Iowa. The central objectives were to ramp up productivity, bolster safety measures, and cut labor costs if possible.
SET-UP
To tackle the project, we proposed the VertiDrive M7, a cutting-edge abrasive blasting magnetic robot. Equipped with 2 #7 Ultra Tuff nozzles and supported by a 6 Ton bulk blast pot, the VertiDrive M7 was an optimal solution. With the capacity to deliver high productivity and improve safety standards, the VertiDrive M7 was set up to target areas needing careful detailing and a complete coating removal.
RESULTS
The outcomes were remarkable. The VertiDrive M7 achieved an impressive performance rate of 270 sq ft/hr while ensuring a flawless NACE 2.5 finish. But the most significant achievement was in labor efficiency – the VertiDrive M7 allowed us to cut labor costs by a staggering 50%. With the VertiDrive M7, we reduced the team from four members (three blasters plus one spotter) to just two (one blaster for touch-ups and one operator for the VertiDrive M7).CONCLUSION
