Increase Blasting Productivity By Optimizing Your Bull Air Supply Hose

SWAPPING A SINGLE BULL AIR HOSE CAN SAVE DAYS OF LOST PRODUCTIVITY

In this Primed Insight we’re explaining how switching out a single air supply hose can increase blasting productivity by 12% each day.

HOW?

A typical set-up of this nature employs a 2″ air supply hose coming from a 1600cfm compressor, flowing into an air dryer, and then to the MegaBlaster. These two hoses generally run a minimum of 25 feet each – thus 50′ total.

Jobsite set up 2 inch air supply hose

The problem is, when you’re feeding 3-4 blasters with a nozzle pressure of 100psi, you can lose up to 8psi over that 50ft length of hose.

For every 1 psi lost (beneath the recommended nozzle pressure of 100psi) each blaster will lose 1.5% productivity. So a loss of 8psi over 50 ft of hose equates to a 12% loss of productivity. Each day.

Simply swapping out the 2″ air supply hose with a 3″ hose results in ZERO pressure loss and thus increases productivity 12%.

Jobsite set up 3 inch air supply hose

For those who run TWO 2″ air supply hoses – that’s an improvement. We highly recommend that if you can’t run a 3″ hose. However you’ll still lose 2-3psi, which is approximately 5% productivity loss.

NOTE: On our rental equipment, we install a 3″ main bore inlet for a bull air supply hose as well as two 2″ inlets to ensure you the best options to maximize nozzle pressure.
