Abrasive blasting equipment is subject to very harsh treatment – attack by abrasive materials under pressure, an unforgiving environment, rough handling, amongst other things. Consequently, the replacement of spare parts is constant.  Added to this is the remote location of many blasting sites, making quick access to distributors and repair workshops impossible. One of the most common issues with abrasive metering valve parts is the catastrophic results when early signs of wear are ignored. The warning signs of wear in a $2.00 part ignored can result in the destruction of a $2,000 valve or a $15,000 blast machine. How do I tell if the spare parts on my abrasive metering are worn? Symptoms include – deadman failing to start, failing to stop, air but no abrasive, abrasive with very little pressure and air leaks. Air leaks are one of the most common and earliest indicators of failing abrasive metering valve parts. How do I find these leaks? A periodic feel over your metering valves while they are operating will find these leaks. Another way of finding them is to put soapy water in a spray bottle and lightly spray the valves. If there are any leaks, bubbles will form.

One of the most important considerations when selecting abrasive metering valve spare parts is whether they are genuine OEM parts. Due to the volume of replacement parts consumed by the Abrasive Blasting Industry a large “knock-off” parts industry has sprung up. In the main these “knock-off” are noticeably inferior. Problems caused by these parts include short life, compromised results quality, engineering standards failure, increased risk of injury, etc. Purchase and use of these of these parts is false economy.
