The PosiTector UTG – DeFelsko’s solution for measurement of wall thicknesses of pipes, tanks, and more where access is limited to one side.  Here are some highlights of the highly capable DeFelsko ultrasonic thickness gage probe family:

• Familiar.  The UTG family of probes are interchangeable with the tried-and-true DeFelsko gage body platform.
• Capable.  Six different probe versions are available, depending on the requirements of the application.  The first four are standard corrosion single-echo probes designed for applications where the surface is unpainted (or has the paint removed.)
  • PRBUTGC:  Standard frequency 5mz transducer. Cabled.
  • PRBUTGCX:  Xtreme version of above with a braided stainless cable with strain relief for demanding use.
  • PRBUTGCA:  Same as above, except integral  non-cabled design. This version is ideal for one-handed use.
  • PRBUTGCLF.  Low-frequency 2.25mz transducer for attenuative materials like cast iron.  Standard cable.
• The following two models are both cabled, and can be used on either painted or non-painted substrates.
  • PRBUTGM:  5mz transducer with highly versatile single and multi-echo modes.  Single mode offers greater (up to 5 inches thick) measurement range, but should be used where paint has been removed.  Multi-echo mode does not require the paint to be removed and can measure walls up to 2.5 inches thick.  This version has a durable alumina wear face and is ideal for use on rough or blasted surfaces.
  • PRBUTGP: 15mz transducer offers high precision when measuring thin materials (up to .475 inch thick steel or up to .175 inch thick plastic).  It has automatic single / multi echo mode switching for use on painted or unpainted surfaces.  This probe can be used to measure thicknesses of plastic bottles, aircraft windows, thin-wall pipe, and much more.
• Configurable.  Any of the six probes can be configured in the following packages:
  • Probe only.  Use with your existing PosiTector gauge.
  • Standard PosiTector package with choice of probe.
  • Advanced PosiTector package with choice of probe.

The PosiTest OTL – DeFelsko’s solution to monitor and record temperature profiles in Powder Coating and other industrial ovens. Configurable in various ways, some of it’s features include:

• Simple Design.  With an easy-to-use interface and bright LED’s to indicate logger status, operating the Oven Temperature Logger is simple and intuitive.
• Capable.  The DeFelsko OTL can:
  • Measure & record up to 40,000 datasets in up to 6 batches. Records temperatures every 2 seconds for up to 22 hours.

The Bresle method of testing surfaces for salt contamination is recognized by ISO and ASTM standards.  The DeFelsko SST test probe is an easy and accurate way to conduct these tests.  Test patches are required to perform them and DeFelsko has multiple options, as follows:

Thickness Standards are used to verify the accuracy and operation of coating thickness gauges.  As a component of ISO 9000 or in-house quality control procedures, they are a practical alternative to sending instruments to DeFelsko for calibration.

These Plastic Shims (aka foils) are low-cost alternative to coated metal plates.  They are available in Certified (individual shims or full sets) and in Un-Certified sets.  Accuracy is somewhat less than metal plates and they are more sensitive to heat. They are intended for use over a Zero Plate, or over an uncoated substrate.

A set of un-certified plastic shims is included with most electronic DeFelsko coating thickness gauges.  Replacement sets and certified options are available here as follows:

Recommended best practice when using the PosiTector RTR 3D is to use these specialized Replica Tape Holders.

Very easy to use – just affix the replica tape to the holder, and ensure that the compressible foam is located over the hole in the holder. Once adhered, the replica tape can be simply placed into the probe with no concern about migration of the adhesive onto the probe sensors.

Recommended best practice when performing replica tape tests with PosiTector RTR instruments is to thoroughly clean the anvils (test surfaces) before performing the test.

These Cleaning Cards are premoistened with alcohol and are excellent for removing bits of adhesive and debris from the anvils. Each new RTR comes complete with 5 cleaning cards and additional quantities are available here as needed, in packs of 20.

Surface Profile Standards and Shim Sets are used for checking and adjusting calibration on PosiTector SPG, PosiTector RTR (and other depth micrometer probe) instruments.  Product details as follows:

• For the PosiTector SPG:
  • Certified Standards.  Typically used in calibration labs, these are available for any user who desires this level of verification.  Includes serialized and traceable height standards mounted to a metal plate.  Labeled in both metric and imperial units.
  • Certified Shim Set.  Premium option for everyday use with any depth micrometer using a fine-pointed probe (as well as the PosiTector SPG).  Includes 3 shims at 50/125/500 microns (2, 5, 20 mils).
  • Zero Glass Plate / Metal Shim (Non-Certified).  For training and quick checks for accuracy, each new SPG unit comes with this verification set, with replacement / additional units also available for purchase here.
• For the PosiTector RTR: (both models unless otherwise noted)
  • Certified Shim Set.  Premium option to check Peak Height measurements for accuracy verification on the RTR series (as well as other spring micrometer replica tape readers).

The Testex tape process of measuring surface profile has been used for over 50 years.  It is a simple, reliable, and repeatable way of determining surface profile parameters.  DeFelsko acquired the Testex tape line and incorporated it into their range of instruments, for increased compatibility and greater convenience for inspectors.

DeFelsko is now offering updated packaging in 50-piece packs while continuing to offer the legacy roll packaging.  NOTE – the profile ranges are not entirely the same between them – their respective ranges are shown under the Product Description tab.
